The Vaughan Fund for Strategic Initiatives is an opportunity for friends of Virginia Humanities to celebrate a legacy of unparalleled public service: Rob Vaughan’s 43 years at the helm of the Virginia Humanities. The fund was created on the occasion of Rob’s retirement in June 2017 to honor his extraordinary accomplishments and the profound difference his work made through the Commonwealth, the United States, and the world.
Rob’s entrepreneurial approach positioned Virginia Humanities to become a national model for public humanities programming and helped make Virginia Humanities the largest and most diversely funded of all 56 state humanities councils. His leadership resulted in more than 40,000 humanities programs, including 2,500 grant projects and 350 fellowships, that reach an annual audience of 23 million.
From our home in the Commonwealth of Virginia, this public programming allows Virginia Humanities to be a force of unity. Through work that ranges from community dialogue to digital resources, we bridge cultural divides, facilitate collaborative work, and inspire shared purpose.
The Vaughan Fund for Strategic Initiatives seeks to build support for Virginia Humanities—not only for its dynamic, diverse programming, but also for its continued positive impact on the lives of Virginians. Gifts to the Vaughan Fund will help to ensure a thriving future in Virginia Humanities’ next leadership chapter.
The Virginia Humanities Board is leading this campaign, with 100% of members supporting the Vaughan Fund. Donor investments will sustain a new era and exciting new possibilities at Virginia Humanities, continuing the spirit of innovation and excellence that Rob has prioritized for generations to come.
