Dr. Edward L. Ayers will present “Where Did Segregation Come From?” as part of The Prizery’s One Community Initiative on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 7 pm.
Segregation was not natural; it had to be invented and reinvented to keep pace with a changing South. This lecture will explore what that separation meant for black and white Southerners in the decades of its creation, and will be followed by discussion with the audience.
Dr. Ayers is a renowned historian of the American South; President Emeritus and Tucker-Boatwright Professor of the Humanities, University of Richmond; National Humanities Medal recipient; President, Organization of American Historians, and one of the hosts of BackStory the American History Podcast.
This program is supported in part by a grant from Virginia Humanities. It is free and open to the public.
