Richmond Jazz Society will open its Fall Guest Educators Concert Series with a special guest speaker and former sideman of Thelonious Monk, Dr. Larry Ridley! Dr. Ridley, former head of the Jazz Program at Rutgers University and former chair of the Jazz Panel at the National Endowment for the Arts, will share stories of his time working with Monk, and Joe Kennedy, Jr. and other artists featured in our VIRGINIA JAZZ: The Early Years exhibition opening at The Valentine Museum on September 19th.

The lecture is sponsored in part by grants from Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, the Virginia Commission for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Charles Owens Quartet will perform a musical tribute in honor of the 100th birthday of Thelonious Monk. The Guest Educators Concert Series is sponsored in part by CultureWorks Grant Program.
