Common House and  Virginia Foundation for the Humanities (VFH) host a night of visual and oral storytelling of Tangier Island. Come learn about one of Virginia’s most unique communities from the voices who know it best. VFH executive director Matthew Gibson moderates a discussion with Peter Hedlund of Encyclopedia Virginia; VFH Fellow and author of forthcoming book on Tangier, Earl Swift; Tim Hickey of Tangier Island Oyster Company; and Tangier Mayor James “Ooker” Eskridge.

View Encyclopedia Virginia‘s 360-degree Google Street View imagery of Tangier, an island in the middle of the Chesapeake that is facing environmental changes and diminishing in land mass each year. Complete your immersion into the Island with a tasting of oysters from Tangier Island Oyster Company.

Free and open to the public; limited capacity. Registration required. Email [email protected] to reserve your spot.
