VFH Fellow Beth Taylor, is engaged in a new book project, a biography of Margaret Bayard Smith (1778-1844), a Washington insider during the first four decades of the newly-created District of Columbia.

An author, Smith’s powers of expression are likewise evident in the voluminous collection of her letters and diaries held by the Library of Congress. Taylor is writing a biography of Smith that melds her lived experiences, rarefied and pedestrian, with her inner explorations as a woman determined to expand the limited female sphere of her day.

This talk is free and open to the public.
