Celebrating Ethnic Diversity of Western VA
Celebrating and showcasing the ethnic diversity of western Virginia featuring food, dance, music, exhibits, demonstrations and traditional clothing and customs of over 40 different cultures. Opening ceremonies will take place at 11:00 a.m. on May 20th and the Presentation of the Nations will take place with approximately 60 countries taking part. At Noon, fourteen live ethnic performances will begin in the Elmood Park Amphitheatre including, The performance of Kultura Pilipino, Filipino performers from Midlothian, VA presenting traditional Tinikling Dance and the effects of Spanish and American cultures on the Philippines; SalsaNoke presenting Salsa with origins in Cuba with influence from Caribbean and African culture; Tricolor y Siete Estrellas, will perform traditional Venezuelan Joropo/ Pajanillo music and dance with cuatro and maracas. Each of these 3 groups will also present a classroom interactive demonstration with historical context.
