Join us and Springhouse Community School for a five-day series exploring the themes of liberation and belonging in community through song.
Wednesday May 15th, 7:30pm: a concert by Tim Eriksen at the Floyd Country Store
Thursday May 16th, 9:30-11:30am: workshop with Tim Eriksen at Springhouse Community School. We will explore several musical traditions and connections to the themes of liberation and belonging including seafaring songs, shape-note songs and old-time music. Bring an instrument and come ready to sing.
Friday May 17th, 9:30-11:30am: workshop with Tim Eriksen at Springhouse Community School. Drawing on our work with traditional song and other influences brought by students, we will explore the creation of original music, and the project themes
Friday May 17th 7-8:30pm: Presentation by Tim Eriksen at Floyd Center for the Arts. Liberation and belonging the in the shape note singing tradition.
Saturday May 18th 10:30am-3pm: All Day Shape Note Singing from The Sacred Harp deepening into the project themes, at Savitz’ Barn, 336 Dreamers Lane, Floyd. All are welcome, no experience necessary. Leaders will be invited to offer 2-song lessons and are encouraged to speak to how the songs connect to their personal experiences of liberation and belonging.
All events except the 5/15 concert at the Floyd Country Store are free and open to the public.
