Catch the final WWII-era film presentation and speaker, Sunday, May 13, 2 PM, at the Christiansburg Library: “From the Front Porch to the Front Lines: Rural Virginia on a Threshold of Change,” short films from Roots With Wings, a student oral history project at Floyd County High School.
The film series is part of a nine-year effort to collect the stories of Floyd County residents who came of age during the Great Depression and World War II. Learn about the project, hear the WWII-era stories, and see several of the student films.
This collection, funded in part by a grant from Virginia Humanities, includes a two-DVD set of short films and a twelve-page biographical booklet, representing a trove of oral histories (1999-2017) held in the Old Church Gallery’s Floyd Story Center digital archives. The DVD set will be available for purchase at the Old Church Gallery, 110 Wilson St., Floyd, and for patron loan at all Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library branches.
