VFH fellow and author of Hidden History: African American Cemeteries in Central Virginia, Lyn Rainville, will act as the keynote speaker for the open, community event “Finding Our Roots.”
Hosted by regional libraries, VFH’s History United and the Pittsylvania Historical Society, this event explores family, local history, and the connections we share through both. FOR gives attendees the opportunity to discuss their family history with professional and local genealogists and librarians, understand the genealogical resources available to them throughout the region, connect with others in their research, and engage with historians and writers who have used local resources to tell people’s stories in inspiring ways. This year’s event is held in Chatham, Virginia, the Pittsylvania County seat, in honor of that county’s 250th anniversary.
A full schedule of the day’s events and registration can be found here.
FOR is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
