Forming a Literary Culture in Digital Media
What did it mean to found a literary journal on the web at the dawn of online publishing? And what kinds of archives and physical objects tell the story of digital publishing?
Join VFH Fellow Katherine McNamara for a discussion of the Rare Book School’s exhibition in the UVA Rotunda, “An Archipelago of Readers: Forming a Literary Culture in Digital Media.”
The exhibit, curated by McNamara, tells the story of the online quarterly literary journal Archipelago, founded in 1997, and the ways it negotiated the shifting sands of literary trade publishing amid rapid changes in the ownership of publishing houses. McNamara will be joined by Will Norton, research assistant and the student curator of the exhibition.
This talk is free and open to the public. A light lunch will be provided.
