Why Support VFH?
During the recent General Assembly session, VFH asked our friends and partners to write their state representatives on our behalf. The outpouring of support affirmed once again that the humanities matter, and that VFH makes a difference in the lives of individuals, organizations, and communities around the Commonwealth. We'd like to share some of the responses with you.
"As a native of Virginia I feel that the VFH is without any doubt the back bone of our culture for generations to come."

"Albert Einstein famously said, 'No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.'
Humanities programs help to expand our consciousness and inform solutions that save grief as well as dollars."

"There is much more to be done to bring forth the many contributions made by African-Americans in Virginia. VFH has been a leading force in this effort. Without their support I feel that so much would be lost in telling these stories."
Rebecca Gilmore Coleman
Past President,
Orange County African-American Historical Society
"The humanities have something to teach us; they shed light on the paths traveled by those before us and on the road that may lie ahead.
They help us to see the larger picture and to find our place within it."
Cathie Brettschneider
University of Virginia Press
"VFH provides the cultural content for Virginia's tourism industry – and as we advance in the 21st century will do more as the VFH uses electronic technology to extend its tourism content."
Holly Shulman
University of Virginia
Editor, Dolley Madison Digital Edition
"As a consequence of Foundation support, Shenandoah University has been able to organize numerous lecture series, conferences, and other special programs for the advancement of its students' education and for the enrichment of the general public.
To lose this support now would represent a tragedy for our community and a dark development for constituents in your district."
Warren R. Hofstra
Shenandoah University
"The foundation's work not only enriches education and quality of life through its programs, but by doing so it also helps attract the kinds of business that we badly need to support a healthy economy. "
Robert Schultz
Roanoke College Salem, VA
"The historic and cultural efforts sustained by the VFH are not frills to be trimmed away in tough economic times, but instead play major roles in strengthening our state's economy."
Carolyn Wilkerson Bell

"Eliminating funding for the Encyclopedia Virginia [a program of VFH] at this point is equivalent to eating your seed corn."
Barbara Fried

"Funding by VFH has enabled us to enrich the public’s understanding of the FBI and its role in American History.
Through the Foundations efforts to aid in better understanding our past, we can all look to a more desirable future."

Assistant Project Director
